'Call of Duty' Movie Talk Highlights Kevin McKidd's Sense of Humor

I'm already a big Kevin McKidd fan from his work on television shows like Rome and the woefully under-seen Journeyman, as well as his turns in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven and Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers, but his comments on the increasing possibility of a Call of Duty film have made me love the actor even more. For those who weren't in line at midnight for the recent launch of the latest CoD entry, Modern Warfare 2, you should know that Call of Duty is a first-person-shooter video game series that started off during World War II but has since spread its settings throughout the last hundred or so years of combat.

A few months ago Activision, the game's publisher, filed for a Call of Duty movie-related trademark, hinting that they were planning on kick-starting a film franchise as well. After the $550 millon success of Modern Warfare 2, the New York Post caught up with Kevin McKidd, who lends his voice to Soap, one of the games' staple characters, about his involvement with the project and if there was any progress on the film front. His response is golden:

"They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," ... "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."

Personally I'd take McKidd over Butler in most roles, but it's great to see that he has a good sense of humor about his competition. Oh, and in the same interview, the actor also revealed the long-awaited feature film continuation of HBO's Rome is closer to reality and that he will definitely be a part of it when it happens. More Kevin McKidd is always a good thing. If you disagree, you must be Gerard Butler.

1. I've been following the career of Kevin McKidd ever since he appeared as the tragic Tommy in Trainspotting oh so many years ago. He's a wonderful and completely underappreciated actor with a surprising amount of range! If you've never heard of it before, I'd recommend the 1998 film Bedrooms and Hallways where he plays a shy gay man who finds love with James Purefoy. The early years of Vorenus and Mark Antony, eh??

I'll take Kevin McKidd over Gerard Butler any day.

2. I became a Kevin McKidd fan the first time I saw Dog Soldiers and have followed his career ever since.

I'm not a gamer but if he's playing a character called "Soap" McTavish, I imagine it'll be good. lol. And I've been waiting for news of the Rome feature so this is terrific to hear.

I'm a Gerard Butler fan so I'd be hard pressed to have to choose. Any situation where I would have to could only be described as a win-win.

3. Really enjoy Kidd - especially since Dog Soldiers. The big thing about him that I think is awesome:

He uses the HELL out of that accent. It's so cool. I hate seeing Gerard try to speak like an American. His natural accent is so much cooler/scarier/badassier/machoeir/sexier. Yes, sexier. I said it only because I think he tries to hard in The Ugly Truth to be American and it would have worked so much better if he stayed natural.

5. I have been a fan of both Kevin and Gerry for years! I am a huge Rome series fan and Kevin is great as Lucius Vorenus!
As far as the Rome movie, I can't wait! It will be awesome!! James Purefoy, Kevin McKidd and all of the Rome cast are amazing.
Gerry is so awesome as well, and since they both end up doing alot of roles as Ancient heros, they would be great to star side by side in some upcoming movie about some ancient empire! That is for sure. I am big fan of the Scottish actors and I always have been, and both Kevin and Gerry do not disappoint. I will always be a fan of them both and will look forward to all that they do in the future.
I heard Kevin say on The Bonnie Hunt Show that he had not yet met Gerry, even though they are both from Scotland. I have a feeling that it won't be long until they do, and when they do, they will be great friends. They both have great personalites as well as much in common. Both of them were in
bands in their younger years, so maybe they can have some fun jam sessions. I would love to be there for that one!
